The Greater Miami Jewish Federation is appealing the June 11 denial of its request to rezone the Alper JCC site at 11155 SW 112 Ave from RU-1 to RU-4L. The zoning board (CZAB 12) denied it 5-0. The appeal is set for the County Commission on Oct 22 at 9:30 AM, 111 NW 1st St.
Miami-Dade’s published legal ad for the Oct 22 zoning hearing does not list this case (Z2023000259). It names only one other item. No Oct 22 agenda has been posted, and we haven’t seen a mailed notice or a sign on the property. County code requires all three at least 14 days before a hearing, which meant by Oct 8.
Also, since Aug 1 the county’s case calendar has listed the appeal as “Deferred Indefinitely.” That change was never sent to people subscribed to the case.
We’ve asked county zoning staff to confirm whether the appeal is still on for Oct 22 and are waiting on their answer. Until the county confirms, please keep Oct 22 at 9:30 AM open. We’ll update you as soon as we hear back.
